I just found a free 1990 sub full time 4wd. I've aleady done one head gasket brief on a v6, and can figure most mechanical things out. My sound out is whether or not it is likely that there is lifelong damage to engine bearings... From what I know the owner drove the motor with a radiator leak, and overheated the motor/blew the guide gaskets. After that it sat for a couple of years (with the contaminated oil contained by the crankcase, almost double correct amount of oil). The guy started it up and drove it onto our trailer (with the bad oil). Is it pretty likely that the bearing are gone? The engine already had 400,000 KMS, but I am wondering about rebuilding (as I may append a turbo eventually)... Anyway, I trying to decide if I should go for the lead job, or just lurk and pull the engine out completely and do a full rebuild, or of late get a whole contemporary motor. (I wouldn;t have the money for a complete rebuild immediately, and would need to rent or buy engine lift and motor stand... Sry if too much detail
I am not aware with this vehicle but have some experience next to these problems.
I would pull head and net sure gasket is blown. Have head checked for cracks and warpage and grind valves, verbs everything and run this car.
If this doesn't fix it,all you enjoy lost is time and gaskets. Heads are now in right shape. If bottom of engine is not good,You would need to modernize it anyway before you installed a turbo. If bottom end IS polite, you can drive until you are ready to complete re-build...
Answers: Do not spend in dribs and drabs your time with just the go before job the bottom end of that engine will blow up soon if you newly do the head gaskets. Look at buying a crate motor from your local dealer , can be seriously cheaper than rebuilding what you have plus you get a 3 year warnt on it.
