1997 Camry won't start.?

My 1997 Camry will turn over, but the engine won't start. When I last drove it it started fine and drove a mile or two, then suddenly died. When I tried to restart it it would turn over but the engine won't start, so I know it's not a battery-operated problem. I live in really cold weather (like under 0 degree at night), so maybe that has something to do next to it?

Anyone have any ideas what the problem might be, and how much it might cost to fix?

Why do vehicle manufacturer brand name it...

It could be an engine sludge problem.
Many Toyota's are affected by this.
This have been a problem for years but has not be widely publicized by Toyota or the general media.

Here are a few articles to read that communicate you about it.

There are also 609 consumer safety complaints regarding the 1997 Toyota Camry file with NHTSA-odi
(National Highway Transportation Safety Administration-office of defects investigation)
You may want to review those & profile one of your own.

If the link doesnt work, you may have to explore the NHTSA-odi site yourself (a):

(go to the "defects & recalls" tab)

There was a class endeavour suit & some petitions as well. Toyota may cover this for you, but you'll have to bring it to a Toyota agent for them to inspect it. Make sure that you mention your knowledge of the engine sludge problems, & that you want to know if this is one of those engines.
Could be from gas line freezing.try pouring some rubbing alcohol or gas chain deicer like Iso-heet into the tank, permit it sit for a few hours and try starting again. (isopropyl alchohol or deicer works best...not methyl alcohol) Try the starting fluid trick as pointed out before by Bobweb.

1979 Dodge tranny problem, no reverse.?

Answers:    The easiest piece you yourself can do to determine whether it's a fuel or spark problem in general is to spray some "starting fluid" into the engine nouns filter housing so that the engine sucks up the fuel rich vapor and starts up momentarily proving it's a fuel related problem. If the starting fluid spray has no effect, you can guess that you don't have any ignition spark. But any way, you'll need a shop to diagnose it further. You can try resetting your fuel pump by exceed switch (see owner's manual) and having a friend turn the key from bad to on (not to start) several times slowly while you put your ear near the fuel filler pipe (remove gas cap) to see if you can hear the fuel pump run at all. If not, you can put in the picture the shop that your fuel pump doesn't run. Finally, if your engine seems to crank over very vigorous even though the battery is running down, your timing belt may have broken, especially if you've never have the timing belt changed on your car ($750 job). The timing belt should have be changed every 60,000 miles on your car.
