I changed fuel pump and fuel pump relay. Vehicle cranks but does not start. Only starts when a jumper cable is placed on fuel relay socket 30 and 87. Once cable is pull suburbun dies. The fuel pump is hear, plenty of gas, new fuel filter already replaced. What else can I check? How do I check for codes?
Thanks for your help,
Ed
change fuel pump relay
check the fuel pump fuse and also check the ground from the pump if that doesnt work you need to check the grease pump and oil sending unit. If any of the two are not working correctly your suburban will not start. Hope this helps fitting luck
Heres something to check the ecm fuse .If its blown then the engine wont crank.I had this develop on my Chevy truck last week.Almost did everything you did but i found it before i spent that much money. THE Fuses are located within the fuse block under the dash .

If that's the skin then you lost continuity on either 85 or 86. If you do own continuity then its the relay itself. Just because the relay is new, doesn't mingy it's good.
85 & 86 are field coils One wants to be constant the other switched.
what ever goes in 30 comes out 87
Relay rests at 87a
I would start by ensure that you have either a solid ground or power, the the other side should own the opposite polarity once the key is contained by the run position.

Computer codes can be checked for free at Autozone...many issues don't register a code if they are not surrounded by the closed loop of the computer and sensors.

As you can see from the answers above, it's a excess to just throw money & parts at it. You say the fuel pump is hear? Check for flow and psi on the fuel rail.check the fuel pump fuse and also check the ground from the pump if that doesnt work you need to check the grease pump and oil sending unit. Are my investigational shocks ok?
Trace the circuit for the sockets of 30 and 87...could be a short or bad ground. Low grease pressure or bad sending unit can motive non-start on some models. Eautorepair.net has electric wiring diagrams...small fee.Computer codes can be checked for free at Autozone...many issues don't register a code if they are not surrounded by the closed loop of the computer and sensors.
