What is the significance of a 3.21 or 3.55 ratio rear end?
Is any acceptable? I don't know what is in it presently, only that I've been told it desires to be replaced. There is a 3.55 available locally. I've been advised that replacing the entire flipside axle w/diff. is easier and less expensive than just replacing the differential?? Obviously I'm not a drive train expert; any abet appreciated
its stamped on the ring gear if ya take the cover sour. is it 2 or 4 whel drive?
Answers: On the cover there will be a bolt with a label attached. The tag will either enjoy a 3.2 or 3.5 stamped into it. This is the gear ratio for your truck. The ratio means that for every one rotation of the ring gear ( the larger gear in the housing) the pinion gear (smaller input gear) turns any 3.21 or 3.55 revolutions. If your Dodge is two-wheel drive you can easily change the gear ratio from one too the other. If it is four-wheel drive the front and backside differentials need to be the same or force from the different speed will ruin the Transfer -Case. 3.21 get better gas mileage than the 3.55 ratio. If you cannot find the tag you should be able to call upon a Dodge dealer talk to the parts Dept. grant them your Vin # and they should be able to tell you. By the agency 3.55 is the most common.

There "should" be a metal tag bolted down on the differential cover with numbers stamped on it. A parts store can suggestion those numbers to give you all the info on the quantity. you can swap those ratios, but damage will probably result due to the nouns specs (and transfer case on 4WD) that aren't designed for the ratio. Is a k&n nouns intake apparatus better...
