My truck wont crank at times. All gauges on. freestyle good. Fuses upright. Relays good. I turn the push button and nothing. the truck can sit for days and it still wont turn over. Or at times it will crank and fire fine. Doesnt thing if its wet/dry/hot/ or has be driven and turned off. Its other a guessing game if its going to start or not. My thought is perchance the ignition switch or wires going to the starter(bendix). Any input would help. gratefulness
Answers: When this happens do you only hear a click but nothing else happen? The most common flop are the motor contacts in the starter itself. When the starter solenoid is energized it engage the starter gear to the ring gear and closes the contacts so your motor will turn. The motor does draw heavy current sometimes cause pitting and intermittent failure of these contacts.
Edit
You stated you hear clicking beneath the dash. According to the electrics diagram on a 2001 S10 the ignition switch supplies power via a clutch or neutral sanctuary switch (depending on trans. type) to a relay which powers the starter solenoid. (depends on engine option, some don't use a start relay) Based on what you are axiom (hearing a relay activate but not the solenoid) consequently possibly the output contacts in it are unpromising (if used). The best way to testing it is by using a voltmeter or a test oil lamp on the output of the relay when it acts up (with the ignition switch within the start position). If you do have voltage present but not at the starter solenoid look for electric wiring problems, loose connections etc.
if the starter doesnt click or anthing. my first thought would be an ignition switch.
