2002 Dodge Dakota Quad minicab won't stay running.?

It started fine and ran great since I bought it Nov. 2001 but when I go out at lunch, the battery be stone cold dead. It started right up beside a jump but even next to the cables still connected it won't fester. The moment I take my foot past its sell-by date the gas, it dies like someone turned past its sell-by date the key.

I checked the alternator when I disconnected the cable and it is charging. I have rebuild and built lots of engines for hot rods but never really got into the computerized engines. I know contained by the older engines as long as the alternator is accurate, you can remove the battery and still run fine. Do the topical engines still work that way or does the computer require the battery-operated to maintain an stand still?

I just find it firm to believe that both the battery AND a unexploited problem happened at one and the same exact time.

Any suggestions? I have my brother bringing me a battery-operated to replace the current one.

Answers:    No doubt you will discover your truck will run fine on the new mobile. I discovered this in a 97 dodge hit van. It sat for a few years, I get it started, but it wouldn't idle. I swapped battery a few weeks later and it purred close to a kitten... tranny was shot though.

Like you, I'd never see anyhting like it past, but I can say near some certainty that Dodges do that.
