Does this sound reasonable? Is it too much to settle up for an old van with 220,000 + miles on it? It is a 1992 Chevy Lumina APV.

I other give my customers several price options. especially on elder vehicles. the belt has no other option. the belt is usually around $40. if it had a bad dropout or tensioner pulley that would add to the bill. the shop should have given you an estimate previously you authorized work. I try to make my estimates a little dignified to allow for unforeseen problems. then when the price comes within below estimate the customer is pleased.

shops can charge anything price they want to and it is up to us to decide whether we want to pay it or not. It is insane what they are charging in this day and age. Most shops get between $70 and $100 dollars per hour and the guy that is if truth be told working on your rig is getting paid $10-$12. It is sad. If they requirement to replace the cat. converter that is expensive.
