Lambs is charging 480$ to replace my spark plugs, wires, and fuel filter. 89$ is attributed to the engine diagnostic (I had a check engine light.) Someone said I shouldn't be charged for the diagnostic if they do the work nearby.
the diagnose should be free, plugs wires, fuel filter and labor should be smaller amount than 150.00
As for the other costs, depends on the car and where on earth the parts are purchased from.
A really good set of spark plug wires = $70
Change them yourself = 20 minutes worse case
Fuel filter = $15
Change it yourself (disconnect battery) = 15 minutes
Charging you for diagnostics and doing the work is distinctly ripping you off.
$569
-$43 in parts (they obtain for 50% less than you)
----------
$526 for 45 minutes of labor + tax
This is why I do my own work and accumulate close to $500 dollars for a very simple job
$480 for plugs, plug-wires, and a fuel filter is outrageous, and no, you should not have been charged for the diagnostic. You aren't mentioning the year, make and model or mileage of your car. Obviously an 8 cylinder engine requests more parts than a 4 cylinder. $480 is pretty pricey for just a tune-up. I would be very suspicious at this price stratum. Is this a Bentley, or something??

Connecting your vehicle to a diagnostic machine is considered LABOR, someone have to do it. Some cars are a plain PITA to replace things on. It sounds a little high but not much other info to turn on.
Answers: that does seem like like mad. part of the problem is the labor. it is hard to dispute an outrageous labor charge.

Why should the diagnostics of the check engine light be free? It has certainly nothing to do with the actual repair. It take time/special tools and skills to properly diagnose the cause of a CEL. On the other hand.some cuff shops will indeed waive the diagnostics if the recommended work is performed. As for the other costs, depends on the car and where on earth the parts are purchased from.

Generally, $500 or surrounded by that area, for a V8 engine isn't a TERRIBLE tune up price. A lot of corporate-owned places will charge prices like this. Meineke, for instance, will charge $450 contained by my area for a V8 tuneup.Connecting your vehicle to a diagnostic machine is considered LABOR, someone have to do it.
