i have a 79 350 beside 4bbl carb(stock). I started it today and it was making a poping nouns out of the exhaust every five seconds. i shifted to drive to see what it would do at low rot. it kept doing it. i shift from drive to park and i hear this really loud scraping nouns coming from the trans. it lasted resembling 5 seconds after i have it into park. does anybody know how to fix both of these problems?
Answers: Any chance your exhaust is rotten on one side.
It should be quite loud and evident.
This would cause the exhaust also to nick the body.
The popping is probably a miss in the engine. It is usually cause by a bad spark plug. If the plugs are biddable I would next check for a lifter/ spigot issue. A compression check should diagnose this.
