89 Ford Club Wagon 15 passenger, w/front and backside AC. I tried using 134 retrofit refrigerant -does not work.?

I found out too late that I was not competent to use the standard retrofit refrigerant. What seems to happen is that at hand is a low pressure cut out that causes the compressor clutch to disengage, after I added the new refrigerant. The compressor will with the sole purpose come on for a couple of seconds at a time. Every other car that I hold tried retrofit this with seems to work fine, but not this one. Is it because it have rear air? Would adding together something like R-22 help, or be destructive? There are 81,000 miles on this van so I would approaching a solution that lasts, but I am also willing to experiment.

Answers:    first of adjectives household freon (r22) will not work and would be fatal to the system. The low pressure switch does do what you said, but it will work with r12 or r134a. the reality that the compressor cycles for a few seconds and shuts off tell me that their might not be enough freon in the system. How much did you include? A normal car will hold something like 26-32 (about2-3 cans) ounces depending on the size of the system. If you have the specs and it is full, the low pressure switch could be bad. When you put the freon did you use a numerous gauge set that reads dignified and low side pressure? If you just read the low side than you need to check the dignified side. if the pressure is too high it could indicate a bad compressor, or an overfill. When contained by doubt take it to a shop. AC is a difficult system to diagnose if you don't know about thermodynamics. that's why you might help yourself to it to a professional
