Hey guys, I was thinking once the 305 V8 surrounded by my 92 Chevy Caprice finally dies that I was going to try my mitt at an engine swap, since if I messed it up I'd have to take a new saloon anyway and if I do it right I'll have something awesome for for a while while (until the tranny explodes.)
Anyway, I was wondering what gentle of things I'd have to expect from this? I've done some research and it seem to be one of those bolt it in type swaps, but I'm not sure of much else. My basic concern is the wiring since my shabby point is engine electronics. Since my 305 is throttle body injected, could I use most if not adjectives of the same electric wiring on a TBI 454? Better yet, are in attendance some links you could give me that would point me within the right direction of automotive wiring? What going on for the engine PCM?
I have a friend who would be helping me, and the motor brochure for the car, but any and adjectives help is greatly appreciated. Thank surrounded by advance :)
Answers: the electrics is the same on the small blocks and the big blocks so this wouldn't be a problem,you,d stipulation a transmission though they own different bolt patterns on them,except that with a moral pair of engine stands,and engine mounts it would travel right in,there's going to be abundantly of changing to do ,but remember its a Chevy,and there's deeply of parts available for it,so you wont have any problems beside parts ,i think you could do this ,especially beside some help,its not as sturdy as people vote it is,and it would be nice when you get done beside it,good luck on it,if you involve help ask on here Chevy's are every ones favorite vehicle for swapping out engines in,right luck.
get a 350 ci, that would be a direct swap, a bigblock requiers most important changes within motormounts, cooling wiering tranny hookups suspecion ect , ifyou absolutly gonna do it get rid of adjectives electronics and go carb. that would product it a simple 3 wire hookup but..... your bit gonna go inert so speedo, tach and everything else got to be changed too. not assured but could and has be done. but not a job for a recruit and in the long run you'd spend like mad! of money and probably abandon the project. again turn to a 350 and beef up the motor, e.a. cam, intake , headers, exhaust ect, you gonna be happyer in the long run
