Did you adjust the valves correctly or just tighten them up

Do OE Replacement Parts Measure Up?

You probably installed your distributor incorrectly.

Remove No. 1 spark plug. Place finger over No. 1 cylinder spark plug hole. Crank engine slowly until compression is felt. Align timing stain on pulley to "0" on engine timing indicator. Turn rotor to point to cylinder No. 1 spark plug tower on distributor cap. Complete distributor installation. Start engine and check timing.

And did you actually check for compression? or are you only assuming it doesn't because it doesn't start?

"0" Compression? Not unless the Head is Off. Broken Valve Springs, Bad or Broken Timing Belt/Chain, Loose Injectors, Hole within Piston Head, Etc. What does the Gauge do when they take the Compression Test, Go up-hold-then Drop to "0"? Never Moves? If you Apply Air Pressure to the Cylinder with the Valves Closed do you hear Air Noise from the Dipstick Tube or the Exhaust?

This may seem silly but did you put the correct mass headgasket back in? Are adjectives cylinders low in compression?? If so check the valve lash
