i took the oil filler sunhat of my astra this morning to put some oil contained by,and i noticed a brown gunky substance on the filler bonnet,and some sitting on top of the crankshaft,im not losing river as the bottel is on the right level,any accepted wisdom??
Condensate contained by the engine from short running and cold air temp have formed and emulsion ( just resembling the paint) in your engine.
Wipe out and remove as much as possible bathe the cap / breather contained by petrol or thinners Run engine to temp and if possible purloin for a long drive. to remove water from grease.
Clean cap again.
Small amounts of condensate won't spoil your engine but if it persists consequently change the grease.
it could just be used grease, when was the closing time the oil be changed?
If it was a long time ago, afterwards change it and see what its approaching say a week after
Answers: as it is now cold near is a good hit and miss it could just be condensation from the grease breather pipe that has mixed next to the oil surrounded by the top end of the engine. the corsa are fundamentally prone to this and it should clear up with a right engine oil flush usually in the order of 8 quid and a filter and oil revision
could be start of head gasket or if you solitary do short runs they get glogged up.
