Alright, so I've been experiencing some electrical problems with my saloon, a 1976 AMC Pacer...this is a new part of the problem. I be doing some mechanical work on it thursday night, started it up to be paid sure everything was good, shut everything rotten and went to bed. The car started up fine, no suspicion, nothing. When I went out the subsequent day to do some more work i tried to start the car...and the battery-operated was completely dead. There be NO accesories on, no headlights, NOTHING, so what else could drain the battery overnight?
(If your wondering - without going into detail the electrical problem consists of systems around the motor failing, and I figured out the reason the radio isnt working right is because its not getting ample power...ill post a link to my ending question)
(And the last set of answers were unbelievably helpful, but I haven't figured out whats going on all the same.)
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;... if you've also have electrical probs, could it not be that your alternator's knackered?
Could be the fuse box
Check the connectors and wiring.
first point, is the battery good, does it acquire hot showing the it has 1 or more dead cell causing it to drain the others to drain.Second you have a thing drawing power try unplugging the battery at night afterwards replug it in the morning if it starts you know it the pacer if it don't then it's the mobile.
Answers: Ok first start with a fresh charged battery. Connect the positive post. With a DVM set it to read current on 10A. Put the black front on the battery negative terminal after put the red to the cars negative cable. So the negative cable is not touching battery-operated minus. The reading should be around .010 (10ma) or lower. If it is higher, disconnect items (Stereo, lead to alternator etc) one at a time until the reading falls into the legitimate category. Now you have found the source of the current draw that is bloodshed the battery. Switch the meter over to the 300ma configuration to confirm with the proper resolution of the meter that you are below 10ma. I hold had to go so far as to verbs individual fuses out of the fuse panel to find problems like this. Remember that the key have to be off and all bits and pieces shut off or it will pop the fuse in the meter.
Anything that is to say connected to an unswitched source of power has the potential to be a current draw when it fails even if the vehicle is off. Things that still have power near the key off is alternators, stereos, cigarette lighters, dome lights, trunk lights, horn, headlight/parklights, etc. Someone have done some modifications to the electrical if the headlights work without a fuse. Sounds like you are on the right narrow road.
Check the connectors and wiring.

It looks like you have a long road ahead of you. I would start by checking the wires to the space heater switch. If nothing disconnect those wire overnight and see if it still drains the battery-operated. The next thing I would check is the electrics to the radio. I do not believe it is a ground problem in that you are draining power not losing it, which indicated that there is a direct short contained by the system(s) some place. Next, I would see how many volts are actually going to the freestyle since you rebuilt the alternator. You may have lately enough to keep the vehicle running but may be discharging the system at duplicate time. Nice car - i hope you get the problem resolved. accurate luckYour car is 32 years old...I would ask for Divine Intervention
