Why would the head gasket blow and what sort of cost to own the car repaired
Lotus enjoy designed a new 3 piece head gasket for this type of engine (same engine as elise) costs more or less lb180 but worth it if you intend keeping the car as they pretty much never blow again and it is real adjectives on these rover engines.
Head skim will be about lb25 plus the labour for doing the brief.
Bristol MG workshop in Staplehill, Bristol would be my choice to do it if you are close enough.
Check the PVC stopcock it keeps the crank case preeure within check and if bad it will blow a gasket. It isn't that bad to rework but labor is the real issue isn't. a couple hundred bucks just surrounded by labor and like 50 for the gaskets. good luck.
Engine may hold got too hot for some reason and the commander probably warped. Your probably be looking at lb300+

Answers: The k series engine fitted to your car is prone to popping principal gaskets. Most times it goes at the dowls which locate the head into place as these be made from high density plastic. You get metal ones next to a good head set to store this happening again.
To repair it is a fairly big strip down. Skimming is roughly lb60 (this MUST be done or the herald will blow again). Head gasket kit and new grease and coolant, Roughly lb300 depending on where in the country you are.
