Brakes squeal and ABS desk light is on?

My '98 Mercury Villager is giving me all kind of trouble. The most recent is the squealing in the hindmost brakes. When I brake, they squeal really loud and painfully. And resting on that, this morning while driving to work, I noticed that the ABS night light came on. Are the two related? And is it a critical issue that desires to be fixed immediately? I'm trying to put aside up for a new motor, because this one is really ready to see the can, but I don't want to drive the thing around and not gain it fixed if I'm putting safety on the queue.

I a moment ago bought a 2004...

Yes, get the brakes checked TODAY. Most shops will do a free brake safekeeping inspection.

Answers:    If your rear brakes are squealing scantily its time to bite the bullet and repair them.Likely need different friction and drums or rotors. I read the abs light come on after the squeal started. Not likely the ABS lighting is related to worn friction but it's possible.
The squeal may also be a bad tiller bearing and this could do the ABS light to come on.Most ABS problems I see are broken wires to the sensors or the sensors themselves.
My suggestion is to enjoy it looked at immediately and dont drive it.
