it turns over but it takes much longer instead of just chirping right up. I cranked for give or take a few 5 seconds today before it finally started. I in recent times replaced the alternator and the battery is a two year old pallid top. Is it the starter? Woudnt it not start at all if it were the starter? Everthing else runs fine beside the car - 1995 Chevy Monte Carlo LS. Its done this 3 times since yesterday. Its also been raining seriously here. Could it be a cracked distributor cap thats getting moisture in? Thx.
It sounds similar to the starter is getting worn out. It will take more power to crank a worn out starter then it will a latest one. Your Monte doesn't have a distributor, so there is no sunhat. The ingnition on those cars are all electronic. The starter is the problem. You might also check the wire connections at the starter to kind sure they are tight and free of corrosion. If they are, then replace the starter.
Answers: If it be a starter... it would not turn over at all. It has nought to do with the battery any.

Minor seep in fuel system, causing the fuel to slowly run hindmost into your tank... which takes the pump longer to bring back back to your injection system.
