My 2005 Toyota Corolla has had a chirping jingle going on under the hood for a couple of months now (53,000 miles). It's worse contained by the morning or after I haven't driven it for a few hours. I'm pretty sure that the noise is coming from one of the belts, but there's 2-3 belts in the coup¨¦. Any ideas which one it could be and how much it would cost to get the belt replaced (I'm within the Southeast USA)?
I would love to know the answer too. I have an 04 Corolla (45K miles) doing the same chirpy entity. Of course, since the chirping is random (a bit more on wet days), when I took it to the shop they have no idea. They also said my belts looked fine and to bring it in when it make the noise again. Aarrgg.
Could be one of the belts getting eaten by the pulleys, sometimes that happens. Check near a local mechanic and make sure!
Interestingly enough, I have something like that happen to my matured Taurus. Have a mechanic take a look at the accessory belt, conceivably one of the pulleys down there is bad.
Belts wont put you out for more than nearly $20 each.
WITH THE ENGINE OFF, push your finger against the belt. It should give more or less 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch with a little pressure. Any more than this, and you may lately need to tighten the belt, not necessarily replace it. There is also a spray that you can get at auto part of a set stores, to help stop squeaky belts.
Quick! open the hood. It's your neighbor's bird.

Answers: before you start it next time..put a small amount of soap on one belt..start and see if pandemonium has gone..if not try the subsequent belt. etc
it should give an indication which belt is making the noise...next check pulleys..replace belt as required..
