today on my way to owrk - when slowing down into second gear the engines cut out 4 times.any ideas
this a classic sign of a leading vacuum leak
however I would suggest start with a tune-up at your local mecanic. at hand are actually thousands of reasons why this could be taking place but 99%of them are tune up related

Answers: Is it adjectives out when you press your foot down on the clutch? (i.e. gears disengaged)
It sounds like you have a imprecise throttle body, one of the sensors is probably faulty. Please give a bit more detail on reproach as garages will try and charge you alot to repair it if its what happened to mine! (I managed to fix it for smaller quantity than lb50 when garages quoting excess lb300

*** It sounds very much like throttle body/housing. You can whip it to renault garage to be run on diagnostic machine to confirm, will cost around lb50. Or get a second foot replacement throttle housing from breakers for lb40 ish. If you require further help then I would be more than sunny to contact you via email as I know how frustrating it is when engine keeps cutting out.
One more point, is it only 3rd to 2nd it cuts, or any other gear changes. Does it ensue when driving along in any gear and then only just pressing clutch down and holding. Try it and see if it cuts when holding clutch down whilst vehicle is in motion. ***
