I have a 1999 honda accord, 4cyl., auto trans, and I be wondering if anyone knew a ballpark figure of how much it cost to replace the backside main seal. Its be leaking forever and its a pretty bad soak, Other than that the car is fine. I took care of adjectives othr leak points. i replcaed the oil tub gasket twice, the valve cover gasket, the front crank seal, and timing cover. So im sure its coming from in that, any info?
do you torque to spec.?...aside from improper seal, It is more than likely your crankshaft has too much endplay.the Main Journals/caps could be Out of round, mis-aligned. your thrust (rear-main) could be worn out as well as anyother bearing down near..your crank might have - runout - could be the pistons..
the seal will run no more than 20 dollars but beside labor probally about 300
Answers: unfortunatly the transmission needs to be pulled to access the reverse main seal. depending on the hourly rates of the shops close you it could cost 250-350. sorry good luck
