ok I'm going to be going on a cross country road trip from Minnesota to Nevada. I was wondering if anyone has a gps system and have used it for a long distance road trip...and if it works. and how well. cause honestly i dont want to be flipping through page of directions to figure out where my subsequent turn is and everything. so if anyone has used those for a long trip and they work let me know.
also do they work beside all cars. cause i hold a '88 acura and my fiance has a '87 firebird. that might have be a stupid question..but you never know. thanks.
Also a HUGE issue is when it was programmed. We were encounter detours and such because of newly constructed roads and current construction. Don't be suprised if you hear the GPS say "calculating route" which channel you've missed your turn lol.

Go out and go and get yourself a good road atlas of the USA. On the main map of the USA, find where on earth you are and where you are going, then use a highlighter to connect the two places via Interstate Highways.
Next, jump to the individual map pages for the states you'll be travelling in, and use the highlighter again for those same roads. Notice where on earth you need to change roads. Left money you need to go west, right routine east. You may have one or two instances where you inevitability to go south or north, but your overall trip is east to west.
Note the little number between highway intersections. These are the distances. So if you leave from Minneapolis (for example) you might run south on I-35 until it junctions with I-80 within DesMoines, IA, about 250 miles or just lower than 4 hours. Then you need to follow the signs for I-35 WEST. The intersection will be clearly marked and within will be advance signs for this at least two miles within advance. Same for all other focal intersections.
I-80 will take you all the style to Reno, NV. If you are going to Las Vegas, you get off I-80 basically west of Ogallala, NB and get on I-76 to Denver; there you pick up I-70 until it Junctions beside I-15 South in Utah, all the route to Vegas.
You don't need any more detail than that. Forget the turn-by turn stuff; it'll just verbs you.
If you are an AAA member, you can get adjectives these maps for free. They can make a "triptik", but you really don't have need of it. Each of the state maps will have city map inserts that can win you to your destination; if not, use MapQuest to print out a detail of local streets.
Enjoy the ride. I've been on adjectives those roads. There's lots of great sights to see enroute. And that section of interstate from Denver west to I-15 in Utah is the most scenic passage of road I have ever travelled. I'm doing it again this spring. Bring a camera.

My starter will not ingage i replaced...
We just get done touring Florida with one and you must have a map on backup. Also be sure to choose what you want (most highway, fastest route, shortest distance) otherwise it can lead you through some back nouns long cuts lol.Also a HUGE issue is when it was programmed.
