Turn the key to ignition on after to start. Starter solenoid does something and that thing comes out and make the flywheel spin so that the crank turns and the connecting rods move the pistons up and down in the cylinder. At like time you got fuel and spark scheduled and thus firing the engine. After that It's all running contained by Time. Crankshaft in time beside the valve train. Fuel is injected into the cylinder atomizes and spark ignite it and it's happening pretty dang prompt. After you turn the key stale it just stops. There's more to it but that's the jist of it.
