I have a 2000 Chevrolet Impala surrounded by which the engine check light come on. I took it to Advanced Auto for a code check and they got a code of Pl404 EGR Valve (Closed Pintle Position) reading on it. What contained by the world is this and how much am I looking at for repairs and is my car within big trouble?
EGR spout is not that expensive...I had similar shield with my mini van...I construe it was give or take a few $60-$100 bucks. This is the valve that have to do something with the heat controls (if I recall correctly)....It's a GM sports car so the part shouldn't cost that much.
I can't speak for newer cars, but my 1982 Trans Am had an EGR tap that went fruitless. I experienced a moderate shudder while driving. It cost me $40 to buy and two bolts to replace. Pretty easy, but next we're talking 20 years of difference. Poke around lower than the hood and see what you can discover.
Here's an example of what one looks like.
Answers: Before you go replacing the EGR try to verbs up. A lot of times it will just be profoundly of carbon build up in the EGR and it's mounting bracket. Try cleaning these past its sell-by date very all right and see if that helps. I other try to go for the free solution until that time shelling out money.
