Ford escort 1994 clutch 1.6?

can you tell if your gear box is going by putting within a new clutch as a garage told me my gear box is on its route out i drove half a mile and its making an awful screech noise very soon i have get home which is roughly 5 miles.. its hard to select 1st gear do you infer it was my gear box? but my gear box be fine yesturday.

Answers: If you just have a clutch installed and now own screeching noise or the transmission won't work consequently I would take it vertebrae. A transmission can wear out but not if you of late had a clutch installed and presently you have troubles. They must own messed something up. A transmission i.e. wearing out will be hard to put into gear or grind going into gear or pop out of gear but this would begin over time. Does this have large mileage?

A new clutch will do nil to fix a bad gearbox; CHECK THE OIL LEVEL IN IT! Sounds to me close to it's out of oil. If the gearbox is unpromising, it is a good hypothesis to put a new clutch surrounded by at the same time, as within is only around another half hour labor involved.
