Is it true that brake pads have an indicator that squeals when the pad are getting low? I have a 2005 Forester with 42,000km on it, 60% city driving. As far as I know, the pad have never been changed.

When you get a feel for it, you can get behind the car gearstick and feel the brakes, but only if the brakes own cooled off. They get completely hot, very fast when braking.
