About how much does it cost to have a front main stamp replaced? I think my work van (97 E150 cargo van) desires this replaced. Have an oil leak that have gotten worse. It runs fine, but the leak is obviously a problem. Thought it be oil pan at first, but i believe its the front stamp or front of oil pan at most minuscule. Leak appears to be coming from behind the idler/tensioner pulleys and dripping down from there. The lover seems to be blowing oil to the reverse also. Is it easy to DIY the front seal. I know the reverse can be challenging, but doable if you're in to taking rotten tranny's. Thanks.
If you have any power-driven aptitude, you can change the seal yourself.
All to be precise required is to remove the accessory drive (Balancer). This may require a puller, and perhaps removing or repositioning the radiator for access.
The trademark is easily removed, and the new trademark can be installed with minimal effort or special equipment.
Answers: front seal is easier than the rear stamp the front of motor has to be removed pulleys, fan if equipped, harmonic balancer and hose down pump,to get to front timing chain cover would also be pious idea if high miles to replace timing fasten when have cover off to fix front trademark..and the cost to do it your self around 100 bucks if you change timing chain, trademark, anti freeze etc.if take to shop to do around $300.00.
