Fuel pump and filter replacement on a 2002 Chevy Malibu?

Are there any mechanics out in attendance who know what it would cost to replace a fuel pump and a fuel filter on a 2002 Chevy Malibu? My mechanic says it shouldn't clutch too long, but he's charging me $730. Is that a reputable price for this type of replacement? Do you think I could find a better price?

What category of grease do i requirement...

Answers:    Of course you can find a better price, someone will other do it cheaper, it's a competitive business. My guess is the mechanic looking at your car already have an hour of diagnostic time in you vehicle {part of the 730} and he'll probably stand by his diagnosis. If you hold you car towed somewhere else "cheaper" you wage for the cost of the tow{if it doesn't run}, and probably someone else's diagnostic charge if you want a guarantee of accurate repair. And the labor time according our data foundation is 2 hours plus .5 hrs for fuel filter replacement. Their price may be a litte high but if you perceive comfortable with that mechanic and they own a rep for doing the job right the first time you're contained by good shape. Also a competence fuel pump is pricey, make sure that's what your getting. Good luck.

I could do it for 300 if your within ohio. but I think 730 is plausible but you should be able to find for around 500 at a local mechanic shop
