Have a stubborn 1993 Ford Tempo GL; It starts and runs. turn it past its sell-by date and it won't restart for hours. Help?

car is a 93 Ford Tempo GL. 5 speed, brochure trans. 4 cylinder engine. Started problem after I accidentally ran it out of gas. I cannot locate fuel filter to check it. It will start and run for in the order of 15 minutes. Drives just fine next will just quit somewhere and whenever she wants to. It take a couple of hours in command to restart. Then it will run just fine until it quits again. It get good spark and current, sounds approaching it is starving for food. Just replaced everything I could contained by it except for fuel components. Does anyone have any economical, practical suggestions? I am a single mom and cannot afford $$$$ fix right presently. I just want location of fuel filter and to know whether it might be fuel pump. I can hear it when I turn key to start coup¨¦. Just not getting flow of fuel. NOT A DUMB FEMALE.

Answers:    sounds like discouraging coil...have u replaced that?...shop instruction manual 15 at parts store...or ask clerk to look at filter location on computer

fuel filter is under the hood implicit the strut tower on passenger side, very comfortable to change if this dont fix the problem later i would say the tfi module is your problem, the module get hot and shuts down, car no start, after it cools the saloon will run fine untill it shuts down again, also might be the stator inside the distributor but i would try the tfi module first
