My 2003 Chrysler Voyager has a 2.4L 4 cyl engine next to 130,000 miles. The Check Engine light go on and I had a local auto parts store read the codes. They are P0420, P0442, and P0456. Can anyone let somebody know me what they mean and possible suggestions as to the problem and fix. Thanks!
I would suggest buying a repair manual, Chilton's or Hayne's, they enjoy the trouble codes listed contained by them. There are different codes for all kind of different vehicles. Shouldn't cost more than 20 bucks...will be handy to enjoy, cuz one trouble code generally lead to another.
I would enjoy thought that whoever read the codes would tell you what they intended.
You would be well past its sell-by date getting a code tester yourself. That will then contribute you the diagnosis code details. Only (?) about $80, but economically worth it.
Answers: P0420 Is Catalytic Bank 1 helpfulness. This could be a catalytic converter or an oxygen sensor. Sometimes a computer reprogram is all it take. It will require testing to determine the problem correctly.
P0442 Is evaporative heat system medium seep detected.
P0456 Is evaporative emissions system small ooze detected.
Both of these codes can be caused by a doomed to failure gas cap or a vacuum discharge. Also cracked emission hoses around the vapor canister. (common on Chrystler products) These codes enjoy to do with the oozing systems ability to hold pressure and not vent the fuel vapors into the atmosphere. There is also a purge solenoid that can come to nothing. The easiest thing to check is for the cracked hoses etc.
If within are no cracked hoses you will need a scanner to diagnose it correctly. If you try to guess it will cost you alot of money.
