Hi, i was just wondering how much horsepower does the vehicle lose under normal driving conditions over time. I enjoy a 95 maxima with 151K, within good condition besides the slipping clutch and wondering how much hp i lost (estimate please).
If it is any help, 95 maximum (when new) does 0-60 in around 7 secs, my car does it within 8 with no launch.
And also how do i maintain or restore horsepower within my car?
Originally it has 190hp (NEW).

Answers: It really depends on how ably the engine is maintained. Regular oil & grease filter changes every 3,000 to 5,000 miles (depending on how the car is driven, i.e. city, highway, short or long trips, etc...) will aid keep the metal parts (pistons, rings, valves, etc...) from wearing down and losing their snug fit which will allow loss of compression and thus horsepower. Regular shifting of your air filter will help to dull the chance of dirt getting into the engine and wearing down the metal parts as well. There will be typical wear that will happen regardless of how well maintain the engine is, but it will be very minimal if done well. Other things that can affect your speed (which is how you're measure your "horsepower") would be the condition of your transmission too. If it's an automatic and has not be maintained with fresh fluid and filter, it will affect the car's ceremonial. Also the solenoids and clutches inside will become slower to react and not grip as well if aged fluid is in the transmission.
To sustain regain performance, you should change your nouns fluid & filter (if it's an automatic) clutch & pressure plate if it's a stick, air filter (to allow more air into the engine as a dirty filter will eat up air flow and thus engine performance), fresh clean grease & filter, new spark plugs (for a more reliable & strong spark because the plugs do wear down over time and can become fouled &/or the gap change making for a poor spark), possibly new plug wires too (over time some plug wires will begin to break down inside and incline the resistance of the wire causing a tenancy spark at the plug).
You can also add engine oil & gasoline additives that will serve clean off the carbon buildup contained by the engine on the valves and pistons and clean out the fuel injectors to provide a pious spray mist instead of a stream.
If you have some wear on your piston rings, a heavier grade grease will help seal around them better and assistance also.
Just a few thoughts. Hope that helps.
