Take it to a mechanic dear.
Go for it Hippie girl ! but get yourself a Haynes manual first, and study it amazingly well, and get the proper spanners and sockets, and tools, and your rubbery gloves, in the past you start work.
Make sure you get the correct matching belt!
A perfect idea too once you put it all together again,is to turn the engine by foot a few times by the crank bolt, just in satchel you have dropped a boll-ck!... if so, it should jam up, and you will next know, without bending them poor little valves, and you can reset your spout timing again correctly, I hope?
I also recommend highly, you renew the cam-belt tensioner bearing, and the dampen pump, if it 's also driven by the cam-belt ,on this model !
I once new a girl, bit like you, awfully keen to do a similar job.
She have the brainwave? to take Polaroid camera snaps, as she went, and did so.
She get it all to pieces, a big gust of wind blew adjectives the photos on the floor, mixing them up, Aghhhhhh!
Mind you, that was before the days of YesImAuto.com!
Good Luck, down lower than! expect you will be back here soon Lady Sara!
If you send me your e:post address I will send all the info as an attachment.

if your gona have a go , angelic for you . but heed scobamans advice and turn the engine over by hand when you own 'finished' even the best of us make mistakes and getting the timing wrong can be very expensive , one turn of the switch and you could have a scrap engine .
if it turns by appendage and is 'free' then you can start it safely .
best of luck ...own fun ..and dont swear to much lol
Ja.
