What cylinder do you time a 1974 International 1600 loadstar Dump truck with 345 engine rotten of, I think i.e. my problem b/c every once and a while it back fires put a bet on through the carb!

Put the engine on TDC on the #1cylinder then sap the balancer.
Mark the balancer at Zero then verbs and plug your vacuum advance row and turn the knob on the timing light to the amount of desired timing. Then turn the distributor until the fleck lines up with your timing pointer.
CHECK THE CARB BECAUSE THAT WAS A VERY BIG PROBLEM WITH THESE VEHICLES.
