Answers:    Vacuum is the old system as explained. New vehicle tend to have advanced electronic control systems to control the throttle, this is know as drive by rope (DBW). How it works is the driver operates the throttle and this is in general 2 sensors combined in a plastic switch and pedal housing, also here is a spring that gives you the grain of a normal pedal. The sensors relay pedal position to the ECU (Electronic Control Unit) and the control part in turn controls an electronic throttle spigot built into the throttle body in the inlet many, and operates the throttle depending on engine nouns, speed and driver demands.
These DBW systems are make it graceful to incorporate the cruise control system as the ECU already controls the throttle its just another input from a switch on the steering tiller.

Hope this helps.....
