I have a 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS (4 cyl.) near 80,000 miles on it. I just bought it a week ago and notice a tapping rumpus the other day, since afterwards it's gotten worse, so, I checked the oil yesterday and be 2 quarts low. I added a quart and then get an oil progress today because the tapping be worse. Even though I got the grease changed, it still is tapping. It tap for a while when it's cold, and when I rev it it gets faster, stops and later when I let sour it continues. Once I've drove it and it's in fester, it has stopped and doesn't start again until it have been turned past its sell-by date and has be sitting and I restart the motor.
The noise sounds approaching it's coming from down behind the stopcock cover.
Does anyone have any planning on what it is and how to fix it? I read different things online and am not sure which to believe. Thanks.
Answers: its the valves drumbeat in it is what is cause this, have the valve adjusted, and it probably wouldn't hurt to enjoy an oil conversion done to it either,i would keep hold of a close watch on the grease in this one, that's too much grease for one to be low on,it has to be going somewhere,so mind your Ps and Qs and keep it full, apt luck with it.
As the dodge man said. The valve need accustomed. This loss of oil is what is confusing though. Have you have a compression test done? or any grease leaks?
