It is an automatic transmission and I drove it from CA to AZ and it ran great. I get into my hometown and all of a sudden it wouldnt go out of 2nd. Needless to right to be heard this is a problem and its sunday so no mechanic help available.

Mileage? Check the trans fluid even with engine warmed up, contained by park or neutral (dipstick should say), on a level surface.make the addition of if necessary. See if the fluid smells like adjectives toast or is very dirty. Burnt smell indicates problems. Could be time for a fluid flush/filter change if you own low pressure in the trans causing incorrect shifting or may have other internal trans problems like worn clutches or band. Have the trans pressures checked. Dropping the pan might show if the clutch material is worn and accumulate in the pan.check for fine metal particle too.Take it to have a tune up and check up.
