well i bought a 94 cadillac sedan deville this final year and now it's running hot and adjectives the water is going into the reserve and bubbling over. also it smells approaching gas is coming out of my exhaust and its really loud and i have a brand trial cadillac converter on it. can some one help me out please?? it have alot of codes on the dashboard but not enough numbers to numeral it out.
Answers: Hi the head gasket have blown this seals the cylinder person in charge to the engine block, if it leaks the exhaust gas are forced into the cooling system and also the cooling system becomes pressurised because of the cylinder compression , pressure will escape into cooling system also blowing the hose down out.
I have never worked on a Cadillac so cant update you about the dashboard codes but hold worked as a mechanic for many years on vehicle of various types the symptom's you describe are like for all gas and diesel engines .
Do a cylinder compression try-out this will pin point which cylinder is leaking it may be 2 cylinders !!
You will entail a compression tester to do this test.
Do not be tempt to use this car until this fault is rectified because marine will get into the engine grease for sure and will completely destroy the engine .
After replacing the cylinder lead gasket YOU MUST CHANGE THE ENGINE OIL AND FILTER !
The only other entity that can cause this is a cracked cylinder principal but this rare Im 99% sure you will find its the cylinder go before gasket .
After removing the cylinder head to must check that the cylinder chief and block faces are true ie. flat using an engineers straight ege the calibration limts will be found contained by the manufactures manuel for this, if its bitter , this caused by extreme grill , then the guide will need to be skimmed at an engine engineering workshop hopefully you will not obligation to do this but you must make sure that the surface if flat and free of corrision around the marine ways which manily affects alumminum cylinder heads, if you do not fetch out these checks you may find that the cylinder heat gasket will blow again after adjectives your efforts to replace the gasket.
The principal must be torqed down to the manufactures specifications using a torque wrench near are no short cuts here I promise you it must be done correctly so if you are not a very apposite DIY mechanic you will save money contained by the long run by having it done by a profesional mechanic .
