most VW's of this age will be able to use a multigrade grease of 15 W 40.
This will also apply to whether its a petrol or diesel engine.
However, if you go into your local VW marketer and give them your registration number they will be capable of tell you exactly what grease you need.

look at your owners manual, it will share you, sometimes it has it timetabled on the oil sou`wester on the engine as well....it could be anywhere from 5w-30 to 20w-50...or only call the local parts house, they can update you...
