Is empty hydraulic tappet mandatory?

My car have hydraulic tappets. After doing repair work to the cylinder head, do I call for to empty the grease out of the tappets before replacing them? The final thing I necessitate is a piston with a valve-sized hole contained by the top.

Answers:    No way man! Leave the grease in them! In reality everytime I build a motor with Hydraulic Lifters, I place them surrounded by a dish full of oil and press down on the form until no more air bubbles come out.
