Lash adjuster replacement?

2002 Dodge Intrepid 2.7. 65000 miles. What is the deciding factor to determine if the lash adjusters need to be replaced ??
Symptoms: Lifter tick until thaw out. Valve covers, windage tray, oil pan sludge. Using synthethic for 2 yrs (a) 3000 mile intervals. Some lash adjuster hold little or no linear or axial play, while others free-up after cleaning with de-greaser.
How much play is too much or not enough ? THX

I be going something like 85 km/hr...

Answers:    The 2.7 engine sucks when it comes to lubrication. The grease passages are not designed to flow the oil and sludge buildup occur because the heat sludges up the oil. Consequently the lifters start getting noisey and wearing because of shortage of lubrication. Chrysler states that it is a service problem, lack of oil change, but know it had a problem. Any play in lifters is too much. You probably don't know how much defacement was done before switching to synthetic, but problem will multiply.
