You own a leak. Fill the master to get home afterwards look on the street to find it.

Rebuild starter or buy remanufactured aftermarket or...

Answers:    Lift the hood and check the brake fluid level within the plastic reservoir directly in front of the driver's side firewall. If it's full, then you may own a bad master cylinder which the reservoir sits on top of. If the fluid is really low, next you have a brake fluid leak somewhere surrounded by one of the wheel brake cylinders or one of your metal brake lines has rusted through. Look beneath the car for any signs of wet brake fluid leak along the brake lines or behind the wheels etc.

Usually when the break pedal becomes extremely mushy and there's no squeaky or scraping sounds, it system you have a leak surrounded by the hydraulic brake line. If you check the break fluid revesoir, I would bet it's empty. This is extremely perilous so get it fixed right away. It's probably not something you can fix yourself, but it's relatively easy for a mechanic to fix and shouldn't be that expensive.
