I installed an alternator on a 1994 taurus. It works but makes a big pitched whine which is louder than the engine. Your thoughts?
Answers: You have a position going out on the alternator. Might last a light of day, might last six months, but definately on its second legs.
I'd replace it as soon as you can.
it could be defective right out of the box. i would not send it out the door similar to that. or you could have an other problem to be precise causing the alternator to over charge or a short somewhere to be precise putting to much load on the alternator i would device the amperage it is putting out with a clamp style meter over the life-size terminal as well as the voltage of the system.
