My son bought a used mini bike (pocket rocket?) that ran when he got it ultimate week, but now will not start. There is spark, but we replaced the plug anyway, it was black. We bought lofty octane fuel, drained the other thru the screw on the bottom of the float, and put in fresh gas w/ the right oil mix and some stabilizer. It still won't start, except for an occassional backfire thru the exhaust. We removed the fly reins and see no timing adjustments. It has a magnito, are these adjustable? I am in position to pull the carb but would like to check the timing first or diagnosis a discouraging mag if this is it.

do you have a spark tester to verify the intensity of your spark,you may be capable of adjust air gap on the magneto but some don't,do you enjoy sufficient compression,if so then check carb,have you tried adjust carb screws,spray some starting fluid see if it starts.
Answers: You do not tell me what kind of engine it have, but if it has a float bowl, I must assume it is a small 4 cycle engine.. If it has spark, compression, and is getting fuel, it should run.. In the matured days, if a flywheel key was sheared, or semi-sheared, the spark go away... not so now..This is pretty much where the ignition timing comes from.. Ck the flywheel knob for shearing, or even partial shearing, as this can affect the timing...If the plug is black, it is running rich as well...
