so i have a 86 goldwing which shifted fine but i get a heel toe shifter and it wont shift in to gear any philosophy

If it worked before, beside the normal toe shifter, why not budge back to the imaginative? Why complicate things with a hit pad, it is probably your heel fouling the shifter.
To be honest, I'd consider a "rushed shifter" instead. Fingertip control of the gears and clutch, and a more relaxed ride..
Either that or Ebay the whole entry and buy a real bike ;-)
