Car is a 97' Buick LeSabre, 3800 series engine. Doesn't have a throttle valve cable. If you permit off the gas and depress it again eventually it will usually downshift. It also has a scepticism at around idle when driving (1500 rpms). Throttle Position Sensor code is tripping a check engine light, but just now replaced and still trips code. Any ideas anyone?
when you replaced the throttle position sensor, did you clear the codes?. i have a 3800 engine within my olds too, and mine downshifts when it gets down too far, then upshifts when you pick up speed. it might be the modulator stopcock on the tranny.
Sounds resembling you have a vacuum problem. See if your car have vacuum-transmission modulator valve.
Transmission has a 'valve' or vacuum sensor that kick the tranny down a gear when there is sudden decrease contained by engine vacuum, like stomping the gas pedal to open the throttle. You probably any have a faulty spout or a faulty sensor.
