That sounds resembling a bad ignition module. If you are spraying starting fluid in it and you are sure it's getting fire after it's not the module, but if you are not sure about it getting fire, that would indicate the module or ignition coil / coil-pack has gone out. One other item it could be is the enersha switch for the fuel pump. It may need to be reset. It should be located in the trunk bringing up the rear one of the trunk liners or under the career on the passenger side carpet.

With out any diagnostic tools adjectives you can do is check all fuses and wiring for loose connections.
1.do you own a spark tester to check for spark.(screwdriver would work)
2.do you have a gauge to benchmark fuel pressure.
3.do you have a noid light (toggle light)to check for computer signal at coil or ignition module.
4.you necessitate a scanner to check if ckp sensor is producing rpm signal.
my advice get a diagnostic from a qualified technician so you can know whut the problem is and possibly you could replace the part yourself if you want to save a couple of bucks.

Is it cold where you are? Because if it is too cold for your car to start right away, that might come up. Try using an electric cord or starting up you car and let it heat up up for about 10 minutes. That might help.

Answers:    If the Crankshaft position sensor be out, you wouldn't be getting any spark. Have you checked the timing belt? If it's broke it wouldn't even pretend to try to start, but it may have jumped a tooth. More info would particularly be helpful. Year, make, model, mileage, engine size?

Re; Blown director gasket.

Yep, those 2.0 and 2.2 GM OHC motors have very shrill heads. It may have cruel, letting the head gasket leak. The 2.5 "Iron Duke" be much better despite an occasional broken head bolt.
