My timing manacle broke what to do?

i was on the e-way going about 65mph when my sports car just shut off, i coasted to the side of the road, get out about 6 diffrent times it wouldnt crank, just kept turning and turning, i get a flash light and pointed into the oil flood area and told my cousin to crank it and i didnt see the piston move at all, that routine the timing chain is broke or eather jumped timing, so does that be going to that my engine is shot or is it a possibility that it can be fixed in any type of way, to update the truth ive had the car for a year and two months, its a 1991 chevy lumina beside a 3.1 multi port engine, this is the first major thing thats gone wrong beside it, but it also has 213,548 miles on the car, what should i do

Chevy truck tranny?

okay most likely you have bent valve .. Now .. i would say it is time to replace the engine .. as a whole ..the cost to repair will be all right over 1500.00 if it can .. i have see 3.1 bust the engine block and can't be repaired.when a timing chain breaks ..

What can I include to my container...

Sounds close to you ran out of gas.

If you snapped your timing chain, your engine wouldn't be turning short some MAJOR grinding, mettalic sounds coming from your engine.

I would start at the easy things and move my way into the frozen, expensive ones. Make sure you have fuel and spark.

Cold Air Intake?

Well you cant see the piston moving from under the grease fill area.
The pistons will verbs to move even if the timing chain/belt is broken.
Remove the valve cover and see if the rocker arms are moving. If not then the timing chain/belt is broken. That is alot of miles for that engine and it may be the finish of that engine. If it is a zero tolerance engine that means you enjoy damaged the engine when it broke. If not then the cost to repair a timing belt/chain vary from 300 to 500 dollars.
Have it checked. With over 200,000 miles you might consider a rebuilt motor. but if the car is not worth it. afterwards scrap the car.

to be exact alot of miles i would consider a low mileage used motor in comparison to what its going to cost to do the repair.you can replace the timing chain ,but you don't know what other engine component may be set to go.

Do tbi's stall after a solid level...

if your looking into the stopcock cover with a flash light you will not see the pistons, you see the spout springs and rocker arms. if they are not moving and the motor is tuning abnormally fast next yes you may have a bad timing fasten. but your in luck because the motor wont be junk they are not "nought tolerance" engines. you should just have to buy a timing set re-time the motor and install. vroom.if your motor is turning typical speed just not starting check your fuel pressure and pump you need between 35-40 psi to start your saloon. if that dont work check a dealer to see if that year has a crank sensor it may enjoy gone junk on ya.

good luck

Where should i dance to to ADD?

You can't see the piston for the valve cover..what you might see is the valves. When a timing belt breaks, the nouns that the motor makes when turning over is very different from your ordinary turn over. The engine turnes much faster and has a strange starter sound. Unless you've hear it before it's kinda had to describe. If it jump time it will almost certainly backfire. In either armour the timing has to be set w/all timing marks surrounded by line. Hope this helps..RM

Answers:    Well the V-6 ...3.1 engine does hold a timing chain! And to remove it you have to verbs the front of the engine off (which is pointing towards the passenger side of car -- because it is within car sideways!) There is a side panel that is removeable that allows somewhat of a lane to take it apart when you jack up the front pass side and remove the right front tiller! From there,- you have to remove adjectives the accessories, (or un-bolt and move out of way as possible)! this includes the alternator, P/s pump, ac compressor, the belt tensioner, and the belt obviously! Then you remove the "vibration damper",-which is a "bugger" as it requires about 500 more foot pounds of torque, -- than you can effortlessly apply! Once you get all this stuff out of the course, you can remove the "timing cover, and get to the gears and chain! If you can do it ourself you can acquire by for about 50-75$, - but if you take it to a garage, - it will probably run close to $250! If you trry to do it yourself, you will own to rent a 3/4" electric "impact wrench" and socket that fits the bolt in end of crank that holds pulley/balance on! By the bearing, - if this one has a little rubber insert between the solid center and something like 1" of the outside, check it over cafrefully, -they "rot" out and fail, -- better to replace it while off, so you don't enjoy to take it off again soon!I speak "rent" because most people don't have one within their garage alerady! - Or air to run a pneumatic one!

If the engine ran fitting otherwise, and didn't go through a large amount of grease, - - - and the body (& interior),- is still nice -it is probably worth having the engine fixed! As long as it costs less than partly what another car would cost to replace it, -- as car next to dead engine normally brings massively little more than "parts" (or junk) price! If the oil has be changed regularly and they used "quality oil" in engine, the rest of engine cold jump another long while! Since the timing chain is the thing that typically wears out the fastest,- (if good verbs oil kept in it)!! That is why I said smaller number than half value of replacement -- you are "gambling" to some extent, - but the probability of loss are "less hurtful" the lower the repairs -VS- the value!

PS: You can't see the pistons through the "grease fill hole", - you can see the camshaft, - and possibly a couple rocker arms for the valves!
