This started yesterday. Weather is cool. It's an '86 Ford Ranger. I checked the fuel caps, parked it in a verbs spot to watch for drips, drove it, parked again, still no leaks. I smell it below the hood and in the cab, but the gas measuring device hasn't dropped and it's running fine. Help!?
Check the silencer, is it broken. May be the gas fumes are coming in.
Sounds similar to a leaking or inop injector.
Some of the fords have a carbon filter on the right(as you sit in the truck) frame rail that spellbound fumes along the tank return line. If this stops up you will smell the fumes.. Also check your fuel lines on the motor. Gas evaporates pretty swift and is sometimes hard to find the leak.
Answers: it is possibly a loose hose like the filler neck. also within is an evap system that runs from the tank to under the hood near several hoses that could be loose, dry rotted, ect.. have a professional look at it, because where in attendance are fumes you run a risk of fire.

It merely takes a small amount of gas to put out a strong odor. you probably have a discharge from a line on top of your engine, when it drips on a hot engine it evaporates efficiently, you will see nothing under the vehicle. This is hazardous and should be checked by a qualified mechanic, immediately if not sooner.Sounds similar to a leaking or inop injector.
