No compression within one cylinder?

I have a arbitrary to purchase a 1985 K5 Blazer from California. It's completely rust free with single 40,000 miles. The seller is a friend of 20 years so I trust what he have told me about the vehicle. It is a 6.2L diesel and does have no compression in one cylinder. I know how to fix it, but my interrogate. How long can I drive it the way it is? Is this something I HAVE to fix right away, or could I drive it for the winter, putting on perchance 4000 miles, then fix it surrounded by the spring when I can go posterior to driving my car?

I'd appreciate any of your personal experience if you've ever driven a vehicle beside a smiliar problem.

Answers:    If you know there is a problem next to the engine, why would you risk doing further damage by driving it short fixing it?

Driving a diesel with no compression surrounded by one cylinder would be the equivalent of driving a gas engine with no spark within one cylinder. It may run, but it will only impose more problems the longer it goes.
