I have a 1998 Ford Escort ZX2 Sport. Yesterday I went to the tire shop to replace my 2 rear tires because my car sounded like an airplane when I be driving. It was loud, so I figured I have a bad tire back near. Anyway, The tire place stated that my tires were worn because I needed my rear shocks replaced and that be also the cause of the loud airplane noise. They said after the reverse shocks were replaced I would need an alignment too. They quoted me $442 to replace the 2 flipside shocks and the rear alignment. One of the tires had a diagonal worn spot on it and be starting a new one. Do faulty backside shocks cause this? Thanks.

Answers: Faulty shocks can cause unusal wear pattern on tires such as cupping (flat surfaces on tire)and once replaced you dont have to, but to make sure the vechicle is aligned correctly, so you would own no further complaints (saying ohh the mechanic did something wrong because my car drives funny since they replaced te shocks) it is recommended.If its out of alignment that it will prolong the life of your other remaining tires.If questionable i would give somebody a lift it in for a second opinion.You can audition your shocks yourself.Push down on the corner of the car a couple times and see how many times it bounces after you stop ,apposite shocks usualy stop after 1 or 2 bouces another way is if their older enjoy no yet been replaced than its a appropriate idea to replace.Good Luck
