Answers: You may have the bulb installed wrong. If it is a duel filament bulb the larger filament may be acting as the tail light and the smaller as the brake street light. The bulb may have two tabs on the underside, one higher than the other, Make sure that these are in the proper location contained by the socket.

Check your ground connections (black wires) if they're not chassis-ground (mounted in plastic lenses?). If it's a full-frame pickup, check the thicker ground strap from bed to frame. Bad grounds can do some pretty whacky stuff. If it's any humane of pickup, check the condition of the other wires under the body.
